Running AutoInstall SSL on CentOS Linux 7
-
CentOS Linux 7 reached its end of life on June 30, 2024. While it is no longer officially supported, some organizations continue to use it with security patches provided by third-party vendors.
Although AutoInstall SSL does not officially support CentOS 7, it can still be run successfully by upgrading the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) to a newer version.
Before proceeding, be aware that updating GCC may affect existing applications or libraries that depend on the older compiler version.
If required, dependent software should be rebuilt using the updated GCC version. Alternatively, you can install the newer GCC alongside the existing version using tools such as devtoolset. This approach is generally recommended because it reduces the risk of disrupting the current environment.
As a precaution, we strongly recommend creating a full system backup before making any changes.
These steps can help resolve such errors:
./AutoInstallSSL: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found (required by ./AutoInstallSSL) ./AutoInstallSSL: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.21' not found (required by ./AutoInstallSSL)
Note: Root access or sudo privileges are required to perform the following actions.
-
-
*
Update GCC Automatically
First, try updating GCC using the Software Collections repository:
sudo yum install -y centos-release-scl sudo yum install -y devtoolset-7 sudo scl enable devtoolset-7 bash
-
*
Update GCC Manually
If the automatic method does not provide a sufficiently recent GCC version, you can perform a manual installation.
Install Required Packages
Run the following commands:
sudo yum groupinstall "Development Tools" sudo yum install gcc gcc-c++ kernel-devel sudo yum install wget bzip2
Download the GCC Source Code
Download the GCC package:
sudo wget http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gcc/gcc-9.3.0/gcc-9.3.0.tar.gz
Extract and Build GCC
Run the following commands to extract, configure, and compile GCC:
sudo tar -xvzf gcc-9.3.0.tar.gz cd gcc-9.3.0 sudo ./contrib/download_prerequisites sudo mkdir build && cd build sudo ../configure --disable-multilib --enable-languages=c,c++ sudo make -j$(nproc) sudo make install
Update the libstdc++ Symbolic Link
After installation is complete, update the symbolic link:
sudo ln -sf /usr/local/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6
Once the newer GCC version is installed and the library links are updated, AutoInstall SSL should run correctly on CentOS Linux 7 and the GLIBCXX-related errors should no longer appear.
